With rapid urbanization and population growth new cities are being developed. Urban and infrastructure development encompasses all the aspects of planning, designing, construction and provision of utilities in a city. It deals with the development, operation and maintenance of water supply and sewerage systems, solid waste management, road networks and utility structures. It also focuses on sustainable development. It employs many other civil engineering fields as well such as Structural Engineering, Water resource management, Environment Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, etc. It is one of the major and vast areas of civil engineering serving wider purpose of human habitat.
Karachi is a home of approx. 25 Million masses, which requires almost 1000 MGD of Water Supply, generating some 800 GPD of Wastewater and Producer of approx. 1500 tons of Waste per day. In addition to the above 03 Municipal Services, the other day to day services which are required to keep the Karachi City Livable is Smooth Traffic Flow, Transportation networks and modes, Street Lights, Fire Fighting and Parks and Recreation.
The build Asia forum presents an opportunity to engineers, environmentalists, professionals, policy makers and general public to comment on the ways to improve the current situations.
The discussion will be made to improve the Local Government System to provide better services to the masses of Karachi at their door step providing only sustainable development solutions, the development of green buildings and improving environmental conditions with respect to traffic flow, cleanliness and energy efficiency.
